As a long-term project I have been trying to collect pictures of all of the officers who were in
command at the battle of Antietam. Most of the images I have found come from A Pictorial History of
the Civil War, but many are from other sources.
To get an accurate set of pictures a fairly
accurate Order of Battle is needed for both armies, and that is provided here as well, primarily
from Battles and Leaders of the Civil War, supplemented by other sources.
The following links list the OB for the Union and Confederate forces at this battle.
Where they are available, It
includes the names of all commanders down to the regimental level, and has a picture of all
commanders of brigades or more. Where available commanders at Second Manassas
are listed if a commander at Antietam could not be found.
I am looking for the pictures that are noted as
"picture needed," and names of commanders as well when
these are not indicated, or are only available for Manassas. I'm also looking to see if these Orders of Battle are fundamentally correct.
