Extra Credit Assignments
Extra Credit # 1
Your
assignment is to locate websites that cover different aspects of Western
Civilization. You should locate at least one general website dealing with the
assigned topic. In addition, you should find at least one website that provides
primary documents (letters, diaries, etc.) that provide information about what
the people of that time period were thinking and doing. NOTE: These are in
addition to the sites provided by the instructor. Write a brief paper explaining
what is covered in these websites, including a list of the websites by title
with complete, accurate URLs (web addresses--the easiest way to get them is to
cut and paste directly from the address line in your browser).
Evaluate the sites based on what material is covered, how it is presented (use
of graphics, ease of navigation, overall appearance), and what additional
information (if any) you think the sites should have included but did not.
Include your name, the assignment title, and your course and number with all
assignment submissions. Send your assignment to your instructor as an e-mail
attachment.
Acceptable length: 3 to 4 pages
Formatting Requirements: Use MLA format.
For a high score, you should select good quality, informative sites and provide
a thoughtful evaluation of each. Your paper should be well written, carefully
proofread, and include an accurate list of the websites.
The initial sites
that you should examine for the website review on the Roman Republic are:
1) Paul Bigot's Scale
Model of Rome (at University of Caen, France) -- http://www.unicaen.fr/rome/index.php?langue=anglais
2) Roman Technology (at UNC) -- http://www.unc.edu/courses/rometech/public/content/art_handbook.html
